In remembrance of his time in burma, working for the Japanese - taking part in building a railway. The medal shows the notorious Thailand-Burma railway line, built by Japanese prisoners of war. It refers to the famous saying that one man died for every sleeper laid down.
The medal measures 72 mm and was struck in silvered bronze by Fattorini.
